The Town of Essex has 3 elected Assessors:


This helpful video provides information on how property tax assessment and taxation work, independently and hand-in-hand.

Using their hypothetical numbers, you can better understand how your taxes are calculated based on the value of your home.


REMINDER - MARCH 1 of every year is the deadline for new property tax exemption applications. Exemptions including, but not limited to STAR, Enhanced STAR, Senior Citizens Exemption and First Responder Exemptions are all due to the Assessors office before March 1. Please contact the Town Assessors with any questions that you may have.

Dateline: June 5, 2024 - The Town has received notice that our final equalization rate remains at 100%, which is a 7.30% increase in Estimate of Full Value.

Dateline: June 1, 2023 - The Town has received notice from the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services that our final 2023 equalization rate is 100.00. This means that Essex is assessing property at 100% of market value and your property's assessment should be roughly its market value (the price for which you could sell your property).
